Drug Dogs Leaving PV Schools 04/04/19 03:53 DC

After building an unimpressive track record, drug-sniffing dogs will be leaving Pajaro Valley Unified Schools.

The 20-thousand district has used dogs since 2013. There have been 21 campus searches since August 2018, but drugs were found only 20 of the times the dogs alerted. The 29-percent success rate wasn’t good enough for school board members who recently voted to end the dog program.

Amid concerns about the apparent low rate of accuracy, privacy and potential embarrassment, disruption, and bias, the Pajaro Valley Unified School District board decided on March 27 to scrap the program altogether.
