While fog is common along the Central Coast, the National Weather Service is reminding motorists about the dangers of driving in reduced visibility.
When visibility is reduced to one-fourths of a mile, a motorist driving at highway speeds only has 15 seconds to react if a roadway hazard is in front of them.
In the worst case scenario featuring visibility of 100 feet, there is only 1 second to react.
As a reminder, low beam headlights should be used during such an event, as high beams will reflect in the fog, and slowing down in order to travel safely.
