A MAN WAS FOUND SHOT TO DEATH IN AROMAS THIS MORNING (FRIDAY).    THE BODY WAS DISCOVERED BY 2 PEDESTRIANS WALKING ALONG THE 7-HUNDRED BLOCK OF CARPENTERIA ROAD SHORTLY BEFORE 8 A-M.    AUTHORITIES SAY THE VICTIM HAD MULTIPLE GUNSHOT WOUNDS, BUT IT WAS UNCLEAR WHETHER THE SHOOTING OCCURRED ON SCENE, OR IF THE VICTIM WAS DROPPED THERE. ANY ONE WITH ANY INFORMATION IS ENCOuRAGED TO CONTACT THE MONTEREY COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE.

A BODY WAS FOUND IN AROMAS THIS MORNING.    THE BODY WAS SPOTTED BY A MOTORIST ALONG THE 7-HUNDRED BLOCK OF CARPENTERIA ROAD SHORTLY BEFORE 8.    TRAFFIC CONTROLS WERE SET IN PLACE UNTIL 11 AM.    DEPUTIES HAVE NOT YET RELEASED AN OFFICIAL REPORT.

BOATING LEGISLATION MOVES FORWARD- 08-22-14 9:00 SG

CALIFORNIA LAWMAKERS ARE MOVING FORWARD WITH LEGISLATION AIMING TO IMPROVE BOAT SAFETY.    THE MEASURE, AUTHORED BY SENATOR BILL MONNING, WOULD REQUIRE BOATERS TO PASS AN EXAMINATION AND OBTAIN A VESSEL OPERATOR CARD TO OPERATE A MOTORIZED BOAT IN CALIFORNIA.     OFFICIALS SAY THE LEGISLATION WILL SAVE LIVES AND DECREASE THE NUMBER OF BOATING ACCIDENTS ON THE STATE’S WATERWAYS.    THE BILL IS NOW ON ITS WAY TO GOVERNOR JERRY BROWN.

AVOID THE 20 DUI CRACKDOWN REPORT- 08-22-14 8:00 SG

LAW ENFORCEMENT IN MONTEREY COUNTY AND SAN BENITO COUNTIES HAVE REPORTED THEIR PROGRESS ONE WEEK INTO THEIR 18-DAY AVOID THE 20 DUI CRACKDOWN.     DEPUTIES AND OFFICERS HAVE ARRESTED 34 DUI SUSPECTS.    LAST YEAR’S ARREST TOTAL WAS 38 AT THE SAME TIME DURING THE CRACKDOWN.     LAW ENFORCEMENT WILL BE SETTING UP A CHECKPOINT IN SALINAS NEXT WEEK.    THE CAMPAIGN ENDS SEPTEMBER 1ST.

SCOTTS VALLEY APPROVES OCTAGON BUILDING- 08-22-14 8:30 SG

THE CITY OF SCOTTS VALLEY HAS APPROVED PLANS FOR A MUSEUM BUILDING.      THE CITY COUNCIL APPROVED THE OCTAGON PROJECT WEDNESDAY NIGHT.     THE BUILDING WOULD HOUSE THE SCOTTS VALLEY HISTORICAL SOCIETY MUSEUM.      THE MUSEUM WILL BE BUILT IN A VACANT LOT ON CIVIC CENTER DRIVE NEAR THE CITY’S WATER DISTRICT.    THE PROJECT WILL BE FINANCED BY THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY AND CITY SUBSIDIES.

CALIFORNIA APPEALS DEATH PENALTY RULING- 08-22-14 7:30 SG

CALIFORNIA’S ATTORNEY GENERAL WILL APPEAL A RULING ELIMINATING THE DEATH PENALTY.    U.S. DISTRICT JUDGE CORMAC CARNEY RULED THE SENTENCE UNCONSTITUTIONAL LAST MONTH.     JUDGE CARNEY SAID THE PENALTY TAKES TOO LONG TO CARRY OUT, AMOUNTING TO CRUEL AND UNUSUAL PUNISHMENT.     ATTORNEY GENERAL KAMALA HARRIS APPEALED THE RULING YESTERDAY (THURS), STATING THE AMOUNT OF TIME TAKEN TO EXECUTE INMATES ENSURES THEY RECEIVE DUE PROCESS.     NO DEATH PENALTIES HAVE BEEN CARRIED OUT IN CALIFORNIA SINCE 2006.

SEASIDE FILES COMPLAINTS AGAINST CHIEF- 08-22-14 7:00 SG

THE SEASIDE POLICE OFFICER’S ASSOCIATION HAS FILED A HARASSMENT COMPLAINT AGAINST THE CITY’S POLICE CHIEF. THE CLAIM ALLEGES VICKI MEYERS HAS USED PHYSICAL FORCE AGAINST HER EMPLOYEES, PUNCHING AND TOUCHING THEM INAPPROPRIATELY.    THE COMPLAINT WAS PRESENTED TO SEASIDE OFFICIALS DURING A MEETING LAST NIGHT (THURS).    THE CITY’S CONFLICT RESOLUTION CONSULTANT DID NOT FOLLOW UP ON THE POA’S PREVIOUS WORKPLACE HARASSMENT CLAIMS, LEADING THE ASSOCIATION TO TAKE LEGAL ACTION.
