ARRESTS FOR HEROIN IN SAN BENITO- 07-29-14 18:00 SG

TWO MEN AND A WOMAN HAVE WERE ARRESTED IN HOLLISTER ON DRUG CHARGES OVER THE WEEKEND.     SAN BENITO COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES SERVED A SEARCH WARRANT AT A HOME ON MISSION VINEYARD ROAD (FRIDAY).    STEPHEN ALLEN, BRIANN VIERRA, AND TYLER GORMAN, ALL IN THEIR TWENTIES, WERE BOOKED INTO COUNTY JAIL ON SUSPICION OF POSSESSING HEROIN AND DRUG PARAPHANALIA.

SAN BENITO POT BUST- 07-29-14 18:00 SG

SAN BENITO COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES SEIZED OVER 20,000 MARIJUANA PLANTS DURING A BUST IN SAN JUAN BAUTISTA YESTERDAY (MON).    UP TO $30 MILLION WORTH OF POT WAS RECOVERED AT A PROPERTY ON THE 9600 BLOCK OF BETABEL ROAD.     SIX OR SEVEN MALES WERE SEEN FLEEING THE AREA.     NONE WERE LOCATED. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION IS URGED TO CONTACT THE SAN BENITO COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE.

WATSONVILLE BBQ ATTACK ARREST- 07-29-14 17:30 SG

WATSONVILLE POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING A GANG-MOTIVATED ATTACK THAT OCCURRED OVER THE WEEKEND.    OFFICERS RESPONDED TO REPORTS OF SHOTS FIRED ON THE 200 BLOCK OF SUNNYHILLS DRIVE SUNDAY NIGHT.     OFFICIALS SAY THREE SUSPECTS ALLEGEDLY APPROACHED A FAMILY GATHERING AND BEGAN QUESTIONING THEIR GANG AFFILIATION.    THEY LATER SHOT AT THE FAMILY’S HOME.     A 15-YEAR-OLD WAS ARRESTED NEAR THE SCENE.      POLICE ARE STILL SEEKING THE OTHER TWO SUSPECTS.     ANYONE WITH INFORMATION IS URGED TO CONTACT THE WATSONVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT.

ALGAE COVERING MONTEREY BEACHES- 07-29-14 17:00 SG

A LARGE AMOUNT OF ALGAE COVERED BEACHES FROM SEASIDE TO MONTEREY TODAY (TUES).    THE GREEN SEAWEED CALLED ULVA HAS WASHED ASHORE, BLANKETING THE SAND.   MARINE BIOLOGISTS SAY HOT WEATHER AND INTENSE SUNLIGHT MAY HAVE CAUSED THE UNUSUALLY LARGE BLOOM.

MONTEREY COUNTY HEALTH OFFICIALS HAVE POSTED AN ADVISORY AT ASILOMAR BEACH DUE TO HIGH LEVELS OF BACTERIA.     WATER SAMPLES TAKEN YESTERDAY (MON) SHOWED LEVELS OF CONTAMINATION UNSAFE FOR HUMAN CONTACT.   THE WARNING WILL BE POSTED AT THE PACIFIC GROVE BEACH UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

FEDERAL INVESTIGATION IN SALINAS- 07-29-14 16:30 SG

A CIVIL RIGHTS ATTORNEY HAS CALLED FOR A FEDERAL INVESTIGATION INTO THE OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTINGS IN SALINAS.     DURING A PRESS CONFERENCE HELD IN SAN FRANCISCO TODAY (TUES), ATTORNEY JOHN BURRIS CALLED ON U.S. ATTORNEY GENERAL ERIC HOLDER TO LOOK INTO THE RECENT SHOOTINGS.    OVER THE PAST FOUR MONTHS, FOUR LATINO MEN HAVE BEEN FATALLY SHOT BY SALINAS POLICE OFFICERS.     BURRIS HAS ALSO ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT JONATHAN SMITH, A CHIEF IN THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE.

Fires in California - 07/28/14 11:22 S.S.

The Sand Fire, that started in Amador County around 4:30 p-m Friday, is considered to be 80 percent contained. So far it has destroyed 13 homes and 38 outbuildings. 515 structures are still threatened. Some evacuations are still in place, although others have been lifted. This wildfire is believed to have been caused by a vehicle driving on dry vegetation. Nearly 2 thousand firefighters are working to contain this fire, and they expect to have full containment by Friday.

The French Fire has burn about 2 thousand acres in the Sequoia National Forest so far. That blaze broke out around 5:45 a-m yesterday (Monday). Rock Creek, Soda, and Fish Creek Campgrounds have been evacuated.

The El Portal Fire in Yosemite National Park and the Darkhole Fire in Stanislaus National Forest have burned more than 27 hundred acres of the Sierra Nevada so far. The El Portal Fire began around 3:15 p-m Saturday. Crane Flat and Yosemite Creek Campgrounds have been closed. Bridal Veil Campground is being used for fire operations. 1 structure has been destroyed in Foresta, California. More than 700 firefighters are working to quell these wildfires.
