AROUND 6:OO A-M LAST THURSDAY, RESIDENTS ON THE 9000 BLOCK OF MILL STREET IN BEN LOMOND, HEARD A DOG CRYING FOR HELP. ONE RESIDENT CHECKED OUT THE SOURCE AND FOUND A BLACK LAB RETRIEVER STRANDED ON A SMALL PIECE OF LAND IN THE SAN LORENZO RIVER. SANTA CRUZ COUNTY ANIMAL SERVICES WAS CALLED IN `TO FIGURE OUT A WAY OF RESCUING THE DOG BY USING A BOAT. JAKE LANGDON, A LOCAL RESIDENT AND FISHERMAN, CAME UP WITH A SIMPLER SOLUTION. HE GRABBED SOME HOTDOGS, DONNED A PAIR OF WADERS, AND WALKED OUT INTO THE WAIST DEEP WATER. HE LURED THE DOG WITH THE FOOD, PUT ON A LEASH AND LED THE ANIMAL TO SHORE. THE DOG WAS THEN TAKEN TO THE ANIMAL SHELTER, DEEMED TO BE HEALTHY, AND WAS THEN REUNITED WITH ITS OWNERS.
