It’s Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and law enforcement officers statewide are working to stop drivers who violate the California Hands-Free Cell Phone Law. 66 people are said to have died Statewide, and more than 6,500 were injured, in distracted driving-related crashes in 2016, and last year nearly 30 percent more drivers were still using their cell phones illegally. First time offenders face a $162 fine, and it goes up from there for each offense.
