A DISASTER DRILL IS SCHEDULED TO BE CONDUCTED TOMORROW AT THE SAN MARTIN AIRPORT. THE ANNUAL EXERCISES ARE A COLLABORATIVE EFFORT INVOLVING LOCAL COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS, VARIOUS LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS, AND CERTIFICATED PILOTS. THIS YEAR’S SCENARIO IS THAT A LARGE EARTHQUAKE STRIKES AT 7:30 A-M. SOUTH COUNTY RESIDENTS ARE WELCOME TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS YEAR’S EXERCISE BY DRIVING THROUGH THE DISTRIBUTION CENTER AT 13030 MURPHY AVENUE, BETWEEN 11 A-M AND NOON. THERE THEY WILL RECEIVE A TOKEN BOTTLE OF WATER, AND CAN DROP OFF UP TO 100 POUNDS OF FOOD (TO BE FLOWN IN THE LOGISTICS PORTION OF THE EXERCISE). AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE EXERCISE, ALL DONATED FOOD ITEMS WILL GO TO THE GILROY COMPASSION CENTER. SUITABLE FOOD ITEMS ARE THOSE WITH A RELATIVELY LONG SHELF LIFE SUCH AS: PULL-TAB CANNED SOUPS, MEATS AND VEGETABLES; DRIED PASTA; SPAGHETTI SAUCE; POTATO FLAKES; AND COFFEE.
