There’s a lot of debate about what kind of development should be allowed on a 126-acre area of the former Fort Ord. The parcel, which is near Ryan Ranch, is currently designated (by the Fort Ord Re-Use Authority) for Light Industrial uses, but consultants for the city of Monterey say the financial return would be much better if Housing is built there. Others say that no matter what is done with the land, the water supply (or lack thereof) is a serious issue that has not yet been addressed….even though the Army cautioned 25 years ago that a replacement Potable Water Supply is needed there, because of Seawater Intrusion.
