If nothing is done to reinforce Depot Hill Bluff in Capitola, erosion may require the total closure of the path over the bluff in the next 5 to 20 years.
The city is looking into ways to stabilize the bluff which is being weakened by undercuts as erosion beneath the bluff continues.
Capitola officials are considering a plan to add concrete to the base where the undercuts have formed. The plan would reportedly give the city time to consider options to stabilize the bluff and prevent closures from being necessary.
