Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Wallach spent more than 40 years in the field of Veterinary Medicine, observing and researching the effects of individual nutrients on animal health, before becoming a Naturopathic Physician in 1982. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Dr. Wallach has been appearing recently with George Noory on Coast to Coast AM.

Dr. Joel Wallach begins the show discussing his theory that people can't counter act a poor diet and lifestyle with supplements. Contending people can take tons of nutritional supplements but until they clean up their diet and lifestyle they're still going to get sick. Outlining several common diseases and which nutritional supplements are missing to along the disease to occur.

Unfortunately the percentage of false positives has also increased. Leading to an increase in invasive biopsies, anxiety, inconvenience and discomfort.

Stating that a study was done in Texas finding that in counties where there was a lot of domestic violence the water was lacking a certain mineral. Asserting that all school children should be given a hair analysis to determine if they are low in that mineral.

Many patients are finding they are getting "surprise" medical bills even when the are going to an in-network facility. In 2010 if a person went to an emergency department they would have 32% likelihood of getting a surprise medical bill. By 2016 the likelihood of a surprise medical bill rose to 43%. With the average cost rising from $220 to $628.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concering a link between heartburn drugs and infections. A metanalysis of 16 previous studies of heartburn drugs of nearly 8000 people. Those who took these heartburn drugs had a 50% increased risk of having recurrent Clostridium difficile infections. Recent studies have also been seeing increases in C. difficile infections in younger healthy people.
