Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Wallach spent more than 40 years in the field of Veterinary Medicine, observing and researching the effects of individual nutrients on animal health, before becoming a Naturopathic Physician in 1982. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Dr. Wallach has been appearing recently with George Noory on Coast to Coast AM.

Dr. Wallach begins the show today discussing a news article concerning the owner of Fiat. The article states the he died from complications from shoulder surgery. Doc asserts that this surgery could have been avoided if the man had been supplementing with the 90 essential nutrients.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning maternal mortality rates in the U.S. For every 100,000 live births 26 women die during child birth. With rate increasing in recent years while the rates in Germany, France, Japan and England have been decreasing in the last two decads. A USA Today investigation found that nearly half could have been prevented. In fact the U.S. ranks with other developed nations in maternal mortality rates such as Argentina, Brunei, Chile and Uruguay.

Dr. Joel Wallach begins the show today discussing his plan to save the dying coral reefs. Asserting tha since dams were put on major waterways silt was prevented from reaching the ocean. Contending that bacteria need the minerals in silt and algae feed on the bacteria. Then on up the food chain and that is why the reefs are dying. Stating that Youngevity is poised to help save the earth.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article regarding a study from the University of Oxford. The study followed nearly 50,000 people for 18 years. Finding that vegans and vegetarians were more likely have either an ischemic or hemorragic stroke than those eating meat. All involved in the study had no history of stroke. In fact the vegans and vegetarians were 20% more likely to suffer a stroke compared to meat eaters.

Outlining a past study that found counties that had low amouts of a certain mineral in the water had more incidences of domestic violence than counties with a lot of the mineral in the water. Contending if everyone got a hair analysis to see what nutrients are deficient.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning a study on Parkinson's disease. The study found that going on a gluten free diet improved symptoms of Parkinson's disease. Most people think of gut problems associated with celiac disease. Studies have linked over consumption of gluten is linked to cognitive decline in older people.

The article concerns a study that was trying to find ways to lower Amyloid proteins in a effort to slow the progression of the disease. However the study failed to find a way to lower Amyloid proteins. Doc states there should not have been an article since if was a failure.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a study of the effects of vitamin B12 on Parkinson's disease. Finding that vitamin B12 could reduce the effects of dopamine loss in Parkinson's disease caused by genetic mutations in the LRRK2 gene. Increased activity of the LRRK2 enzyme contributes to accumulation of toxic alpha-synuclein fibers in dopamine producing neurons. The form of vitamin B12 called AdoCbl was able to directly bind to LRRK2, altering it's structure disrupting its normal function. They found that treatment with the vitamin B12 could prevent the death of nerve cells that produce dopamine and the occurrence of symptoms associated with neurodegeneration.
