Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Wallach spent more than 40 years in the field of Veterinary Medicine, observing and researching the effects of individual nutrients on animal health, before becoming a Naturopathic Physician in 1982. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Dr. Wallach has been appearing recently with George Noory on Coast to Coast AM.

Monologue

Dr. Joel Wallach begins the show today discussing astronaut Scott Kelly who recently returned from the space station. Spending almost a year in space more days than anyone else. After tests it was found that his immure system was activated. As if reacting to an infection in the blood. His bone density has also down compared to his twin brother Mark Kelly who wasn't in space. Doc asserts that space didn't cause nutritional deficiencies but that he wasn't getting the nutrients in his food.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article about a study of carotenoids. Researchers found that women who ate a lot of carotenoid laden foods reduced their risk of breast cancer by 33%. Carotenoids are commonly found in fruits and vegetables that are bright red, yellow and orange. They can also be found in some leafy greens like kale.

Contending that everyone should have to have a hair analysis before they could buy a firearm. Asserting that all of the shooters have nutrient deficiencies. If these people had a hair analysis then we would know that they shouldn't be sold a weapon.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article about a study of diet soda drinkers. A study of over 82,000 women ages 50-79 found that 5.1% of the women were drinking two or more artificially sweeted beverages a day. That group was determined to have a 23% higher risk of a stroke and a 29% higher risk of heart disease. The same group were 16% more likely to die of any cause compared to the other group.

The study found that women who were given antibiotics for an extended period of time (more than two weeks) had an increased risk of developing colon cancer. Women who were given antibiotics for two months in their 20s and 30% had a 36% increased risk of colon cancer compared to women who didn't take the drugs. Women who were given extended antibiotics in their 40s and 50s had even a greater risk of developing colon cancer.
