Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Wallach spent more than 40 years in the field of Veterinary Medicine, observing and researching the effects of individual nutrients on animal health, before becoming a Naturopathic Physician in 1982. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Dr. Wallach has been appearing recently with George Noory on Coast to Coast AM.

Dr. Joel Wallach begins the show today discussing a news article about ER visits for heart problems. Apparently over the past decade there has been and increase in the admittance of patients under the age of 40 for heart conditions. Doc asserts that this is due to diet and lifestyle. Contending that poor diets can contribute plaque in the arteries leading to heart attacks. Stating that these issues can be reversed through lifestyle and dietary changes and the addition of nutritional supplementation.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article a study from the American Cancer Society. The study of 50,000 people ages 40 to 75 following them for a median of 10 years. Researchers found that those who three or more cups of tea that was 140 degrees F had a 90 percent increased risk of esophageal cancer. They were sure why but speculated that the hot liquid could be damaging cells on an ongoing basis.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article about a study of ADHD drugs. Finding that those taking amphetamines like Adderall are more likely to develop psychosis. The study looked at over 220,000 children and teens ages 13 to 25 newwly prescribed either amphetamines or methyphenidates. There are currently almost 5 million people in the U.S. under the age of 25 prescribed medications the treat their ADHD.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a Harvard study of sugary drinks. The study found that those who drink two or more daily have a 31% increased risk of early death. With each additional sugary beverage the risk of cardiovascular disease increases by 10%. Researchers analyzed two studies including over 38,000 men and 80,000 women following them and their diets for 20 to 30 years.
