Dr. Joel Wallach

Dr. Joel Wallach begins the show discussing disgestion and absorbtion. Explaining the these are two different things with digestion being the breakdown of food. Contending the PH of stomach acid should two or less. As the PH gets closer to neutral which is seven yeast begins to grow and ferment causing gas. Asserting that if food isn't broken down enough then there is little to no absorbtion of nutrinets. Leading to a laundry list of diseases and health challenges.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning gluten free diets. Dieticians interviewed for the article contend that people who don't have celiac disease should not go on a gluten free diet. Because not all people who go gluten free see their symptoms go away. Doc contends that if people don't use nutritional supplements after going gluten free they won't get many benefits.

Dr. Joel Wallach begins the show discussing the eruption of Mt. Saint Helens in the 1980s. Stating the several hundred square miles of Washington state were covered in ash. Contending that in the years following there were record bumper crops. Stating this is because all the ash put into the soil helped the plants produce.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article regarding a Harvard study. The study found that people who eat high fiber cereal for breakfast every day reduced their risk of death by 19%. Also finding those eating fiber cereals had a 34% reduced risk of dying from diabetes. With a 15% reduced risk of death a cancer death and a 17% lower risk of dying from any cause.

Outlining the causes of the heart diseases and stating which nutrients are deficient. Contending that all congenital health challenges are due to nutritional deficiencies either during gestation or conception.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article regarding a study of dieting. Researchers found that deciding to change ones diet requires conscious thought. But when it comes time to eat feelings come into play that often affects food choices. Concluding that this is why diets often don't work. Contending without the essential nutrients tissues will begin to break down and health problems will soon follow.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article about mammograms. A show host from the Food Network has recently announced she has breast cancer. She is 48 years old and by U.S. Preventive Services Task Force guidelines call for woman to start getting mamograms after age 50. Now she is urging women to get mamograms early because she believes it has saved her life. Other expert groups such as the American Cancer Society, the American Medical Association and the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists all recommend annual mamograms starting at age 40. Dr. Wallach cites the statistics of how many false positive mamograms occur every year.
