Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Wallach spent more than 40 years in the field of Veterinary Medicine, observing and researching the effects of individual nutrients on animal health, before becoming a Naturopathic Physician in 1982. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Dr. Wallach has been appearing recently with George Noory on Coast to Coast AM.

Dr. Wallach starts the show today talking about a couple of news stories the first about a man who was declared dead  Surgeons were set to harvest organs and then a relative noticed the man moving his foot.  He is now recovering thanks to his family.  Doc also discusses the rise in autism rates in the past few years.  Attributing the rise to poor diets and a lack of nutrtiional supplementation.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news story concerning the rise in celebrities using the ADHD drug Adderall to lose weight.  Experts are concerned that America's youth may follow the trend.  The generic name for Adderall is amphetamine-dextroamphetamine and was first seen in the 1960's and 1970's as a diet drug.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a study concerning elderly patients in the emergency department.  The study found that elderly patients who were subjected to an ER visit longer than 6 hours were 400% more likely to end up in a nursing home.  In the study 10% of the patients spent more than 48 hours in the ER.

Dr. Wallach begins the show today discussing all of the major corporations that are "out sourcing" overseas and cutting jobs.  Asserting that people should "recession-proof" their lives by starting a home-based business through Youngevity and Drink ACT.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a study done at the Cleveland Clinic.  Researchers looked at the death rates of heart surgery patients who received blood transfusions.  They found that postoperative deaths increased by 30% in patients given blood older than two weeks.  Currently the FDA's guideline is that blood can be used up until it is 42 days old.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news story regarding a top executive of a drug company.  Apparently Dr. W Scott Harkonen is facing two felony indicments for wire fraud and marketing violations.  This doctor used only part of the results from a clinical trial involving the drug Actimmune.  The FDA approved the drug for use in two rare diseases in children.  But Harkonen was using the partial results to claim the drug decreased the mortality rate of patients with idopathic pulmonary fibrosis by 70%.  Despite the fact that during the original clinical trials the FDA told the company the analysis did not support approval of Actimmune for the lung disease.
