Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Wallach spent more than 40 years in the field of Veterinary Medicine, observing and researching the effects of individual nutrients on animal health, before becoming a Naturopathic Physician in 1982. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Pearls of Wisdom

Billy fills in for Doug. Billy and Ben discuss changes in school lunch program food offerings. Ben asserts that different is not always better. They also talk about the nicotine content going up in american made cigerettes. Ben says cigerettes are very bad for your skin health.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing juicing.  Outlining the importance of the nutrients that people can get from juicing vegatables and fruits.  Also asserting that even though people juice it is still important to take supplemental nutrients.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a couple of recent research studies.  The first concerns a study done at the University of Miami that found HIV patients who took 220 micrograms of selenium faired better than those taking a sugar pill.  In fact after nine months those on the daily selenium had significantly lower levels of the virus in their blood.  As well as increased immunce cell counts.  Another study found that microwaving your kitchen sponge killed 99% of bacteria, viruses or parasites as well as bacterial spores.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article regarding the health care industry.  The articles states that health care system is fueled by over $2 trillion dollars representing 16% of national productivity.  Also stating that 40% of all bankrupcies are do to huge medical bills the patients or their families cannot afford to pay.
