Monologue

Dr. Wallach discusses the news story of a doctor and two nurses from New Orleans arrested on homocide charges.  The Louisiana attorney general launched an investigation to find whether hospital staff euthanized patients following the Hurricane Katrina hit.  Tissue samples have shown positive for morphine and Versed, a strong anti-anxiety medication.  These medications had not been prescribed to the four patients and were injected without the patients knowledge.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug and Dr. Wallach discuss a couple of news articles related to the same topic.  The first article was regarding a recent research study that found a link between aura migraine suffers and an increased risk of heart attacks, stroke and hearth death.  Compared to nonmigraine sufferers those with aura migraines were almost twice as likely to have major heart disease, heart attacks and heart death.  The second article concerns the fact that all six of the researchers involved in the afore mentioned study had financial ties to manufacturors of migraine or heart medications.  Despite this none of the researchers disclosed these facts as required by the medical journal (Journal of the American Medical Association) that published the results of the study.
