Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Wallach spent more than 40 years in the field of Veterinary Medicine, observing and researching the effects of individual nutrients on animal health, before becoming a Naturopathic Physician in 1982. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Dr. Wallach starts by mentioning a recent report from the American Cancer Society stating that the numbers of cancer deaths have gone down the last two years.  Doc also discusses all of the various programs and products offered by Youngevity for weight loss.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a couple of news articles the first concerns the American Cancer Society report on cancer deaths.  Second Doug discusses a research study that found apple juice with the pulp still in it has 4 times the amount of antioxidants as does clarifed apple juice.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss two recent news articles.  The first concerns a CDC report that found in two years (2004 & 2005) over 1500 children were hospitalized due to reactions to over-the-counter cold medicines and cough syrups and three of those died.  The second article regards a survey from the American Cancer Society that found 36% of Americans believe they have no control over their cancer risks.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach dicuss a recent report from the National Academies of Science's Institute of Medicine.  The report states that 7000 people a year die because of mistakes made with prescriptions because of poor or sloppy hand writing.  Dell, Google and Aetna Insurance along with several hospitals are working on a $100 million dollar project to get doctors to use electronic methods such as eRx.
