Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Wallach spent more than 40 years in the field of Veterinary Medicine, observing and researching the effects of individual nutrients on animal health, before becoming a Naturopathic Physician in 1982. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing a Time magazine story in 2002 predicted an epidemic of arthritis. Recent editions of Usa Today newspaper and other publications show the 2002 story was true. Dr Wallach contends however that knee surgeries to fix the problems don't work. He Contends that with a proper diet and supplementation the issues can be eradicated.

Pearls of Wisdom

Billy and Dr. Wallach discuss two recent news stories. The first concerns a recent study in China that reexamines previous study data on omega 3 fatty acids and their effects on depression. The second study shows heavy drinking may cause strokes.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing the problem of obesity in children and behavioral problems.  Asserting that they are both related in the fact that they are nutritionally based problems.  Contend that with a proper diet and supplementation both issues can be eradicated.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss two recent news stories.  The first concerns a recent study funded by Pfizer that found a 30% increased risk of major cardiovascular events such as heart attacks, strokes and death if patients switch from Lipitor to Zocor or the generic simvastatin.  Coincidentally, the British National Health Service is set to switch from more expensive "name" brands to generics.  The second article concerns a study that found a link between increased ADHD symtoms in children and preservatives and artificial food colorings in juices.  Doc disagrees contending it is the sugar in the juices that is the problem.

Dr. Wallach starts today's show discussing the increasing problem of obesity among children.  Outlining that most parents believe the problem is due to a lack of excercise.  While other parents contend the problem stems from too much advertising of sodas, juices and fast foods.  Doc asserts the problem is actually a nutritional deficiency.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a recent study on low iron levels among children ages 1 to 3.  The study found that obese children were 20% more likely to have iron deficiencies than normal weight children.  Researchers believe this is due to toddlers drinking too much milk and juice that are low in iron levels.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing a study that looked into medical mistakes and the hours worked by doctors.  The theory was that doctors were making mistakes because they were over worked.  However, the study found doctors made the same amount of mistakes even with shortened hours.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning loans to pay for medical procedures.  In the last few years several automakers, furnitures stores and other big-ticket items have been offering "no money down" low interest loans.  Now doctors and dentists are offering the same for procedures often not covered by insurance companies.
