Monologue

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing the problem of obesity in children and behavioral problems.  Asserting that they are both related in the fact that they are nutritionally based problems.  Contend that with a proper diet and supplementation both issues can be eradicated.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss two recent news stories.  The first concerns a recent study funded by Pfizer that found a 30% increased risk of major cardiovascular events such as heart attacks, strokes and death if patients switch from Lipitor to Zocor or the generic simvastatin.  Coincidentally, the British National Health Service is set to switch from more expensive "name" brands to generics.  The second article concerns a study that found a link between increased ADHD symtoms in children and preservatives and artificial food colorings in juices.  Doc disagrees contending it is the sugar in the juices that is the problem.

  • Joanne has questions concerning Menier's disease and vetigo.
  • Ada's husband has been diagnosed with congestive heart disease and acid reflux.

Monologue

Dr. Wallach starts today's show discussing the increasing problem of obesity among children.  Outlining that most parents believe the problem is due to a lack of excercise.  While other parents contend the problem stems from too much advertising of sodas, juices and fast foods.  Doc asserts the problem is actually a nutritional deficiency.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a recent study on low iron levels among children ages 1 to 3.  The study found that obese children were 20% more likely to have iron deficiencies than normal weight children.  Researchers believe this is due to toddlers drinking too much milk and juice that are low in iron levels.

  • Olive recently started taking the "Pig Pack" and is experiencing an itching sensation on her skin.

Monologue

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing a study that looked into medical mistakes and the hours worked by doctors.  The theory was that doctors were making mistakes because they were over worked.  However, the study found doctors made the same amount of mistakes even with shortened hours.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning loans to pay for medical procedures.  In the last few years several automakers, furnitures stores and other big-ticket items have been offering "no money down" low interest loans.  Now doctors and dentists are offering the same for procedures often not covered by insurance companies.

Callers

  • Joanne has a friend diagnosed with hepatitis C.
  • Brenda has been diagnosed with Epstein-Barr syndrome.
  • Mary has been suffering from a chronic systemic yeast infection.
  • Marjorie's niece has been diagnosed with spinal cancer.

Monologue

Nurse Joanne Conaway fills in for Dr. Wallach.  Joanne starts the show discussing a recent 4-part news show that delved into the food industry's duping of the American public.   This deception in the form of "farm subsidies" paying farmers not to plant certain crops.  While encouraging farmers to grow lots and lots of corn which has virtually no nutritional value except to fatten livestock and people.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Joanne Conaway discuss a recent research study on breast cancer reductions.  The study focused on the decline of breast cancer diagnosis since women stopped using HRT (hormone replacement therapy).  Some experts had previously pointed to a reduction of mammograms as the reason.  However, this recent study clearly shows that is not the case but rather the reduction of HRT as the cause for the decline.

Callers

  • Katherine has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
  • Robert has questions regarding an enlarged prostate.
  • Mike has been diagnosed with periodontal disease and want to avoid having his teeth scraped and some pulled.
