Dr. Joel Wallach

Wallach spent more than 40 years in the field of Veterinary Medicine, observing and researching the effects of individual nutrients on animal health, before becoming a Naturopathic Physician in 1982. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Doug Winfrey and Ben Fuchs discuss a recently released survey from the International Food Information Council Foundation. The survey indicated several "diet disconnects" as an example 90% of Americans say breakfast is an important part of a healthy diet, only 49% actually ate breakfast on a daily basis.

Contending that although there are numerous environmental sources the biggest source of mercury is found in our diets. Fish is the largest contributor of mercury into our bodies and the bigger the fish most likely the more the mercury content.

Doug Winfrey and Ben Fuchs discuss a recent study that found the incidence of MRSA (methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus) has increased 700% in recent years. Usually only found in hospitals and nursing homes the infection is now being found in poor urban neighborhoods. Ben contends the rise is a direct result of the over use of antibiotics.

Dr. Wallach starts todays show discussing the increasing problem of large companies leaving the U.S.  The most recent Boeng and Goodrich Tires have announced the are outsourcing to Mexico.  All of these companies contend the major reason is the increasing costs of healthcare for their employees.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a recent study regarding medical myths.  The research published in the British Medical Journal looked at seven common myths such as;"you must drink 8 glasses of water a day".  The findings were that all of these were just that "myths" none could be scientifically verified.
