Dr. Joel Wallach

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing the fact that gasoline prices are approaching $4.50 per gallon in most areas of the U.S.  Asserting that the rising prices aren't going down anytime soon.  He recommends developing multiple income streams in order to off-set the down turn economy.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news story concerning the overdose of several babies.  At a hospital in Corpus  Christi, Texas 17 babies were given an overdose of the blood thinner heparin.  This on the heals of actor Dennis Quaid's newborn twins given 1000 times the prescribed dose of heparin last year.  In the latest incident one baby had died and one other remains in critical condition.

Dr. Wallach starts the show today discussing the rising oil prices.  He then outlines several methods for conserving fuel when driving.  Also describing some of the ways that having a home-based business through Youngevity can create additional income streams.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss recent research that found adding nutrients to the diets of lab gerbils boosted cogintive abilities.  After just 4 weeks on a diet supplemented with choline, uridine monophosphate and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) the gerbils improved their ability to navigate mazes and had more brain synapse activity.  Thus supporting the theory that nutrition can boost congnitive abilities.

Pharmacist Ben Fuchs fills in for Dr. Wallach.  Ben discusses a news article regarding a report from the American Academy of Pediatrics.  The report is recommending that children begin screening for high LDL levels at age 2.  It also recommends that child as young as 8 years of age be put on cholesterol lowering drugs to avoid future heart problems.  In addition they are recommending children as young as 1 be put on low-fat milk.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing a news article about the health and longevity rankings of Americans.   The U.S. ranks 26th on health and 46th on longevity when compared to other industrialized nations.  In the article the director of the CDC Dr. Julie Gerberding is quoted as saying that the medical system needs to become more proactive and not reactive.  Also that more emphasis needs to be put on nutrition and that Americans need to be the front line in their own health.  Both of these are things Dr. Wallach has been telling people for over 40 years.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a story in Reader's Digest where several doctors mostly anonymously tell things they would want their patients to know.  Such as having a nurse page the doctor when they are with a patient that asks too many questions.  This way the doctor can rush out of the room claiming there is an emergency.  Also that 46% of doctors would turn a blind eye to turning in another doctor who is impaired or incompetent.
