Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Wallach spent more than 40 years in the field of Veterinary Medicine, observing and researching the effects of individual nutrients on animal health, before becoming a Naturopathic Physician in 1982. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Dr. Wallach starts today's show discussing a recent study on green tea.  The study found that the polyphenols in green tea were able to stop the growth of early colon tumors.  However, the effects weren't as dramatic when tested on tumors that were already cancerous.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news story concern the global organ trade.  There is now an increasing incidence of wealth Europians and Americans going to poorer countries and buying organs, namely kidneys and livers.  Unfortunately, for those selling the organs they get little or no care following the removal of their organs.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing the fact that many areas of the U.S. are experiencing triple digit temperatures.  Asserting the importance of staying properly hydrated.  Contending that water alone is not enough to replace the soup of nutrients that are lost through sweating.  Recommending one ounce of Yougevity's "Rebound FX" product in one quart of water as a good method of staying properly hydrated.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach disucss a news story concerning "wrong-site" surgery.  An 86 year old Rhode Island man went in to have blood removed from from the left side of his brain.  Unfortunately the surgeon operated on the other side of his brain.  According to the Archives of Surgery some 1300 to 2700 "wrong-site" surgeries occur each year.  In Pennsylvania alone this happens on average once a week.

Dr. Wallach begins the show discussing health issues concerning children.  Stating that from the 1970's until 2000 most questions concerning children revolved around ADD and ADHD.  Now most the questions he gets are in regards to autism.  Doc then outlines the two types of autism and the causes.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss two recent health news stories.  The first concerns a hospital in New Mexico that is about to be fined by the government on five counts of illegally dumping hazardous medical waste in a land fill.  The second story concerns a report from a non-profit group that outlines 5 ways lives can be saved by taking preventative measures.
