Billy and Joanne also comment on a story out of Madrid Spain about a morphine addicted doctor. The anestheiologist gave 275 patients hepititus C when he used the same tainted needles he had also used on himself. (Nice Guy!)

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news story concerning drug reps access to medical schools.  Five schools nation-wide have set up strict guidelines regarding the access they will allow to their teaching doctors and medical students.  This all in an effort to reduce the amount of influence the drug companies have on prescribing habits.

Dr. Wallach discusses the importance of people educating themselves about their own healthcare.  Contending the more knowledge one has about health the easier it will be to make educated decisions regarding health.  Doc outlines several resources where people can find the information they need to make informed healthcare decisions.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss two recent news articles the first concerns billing practices of some California hospitals.  A recent report from a two year study found that hospitals charged uninsured low income patients up to threes more than what they were charging private insurers or government programs such as Medicare.  The second story comes out of China and concerns patients and relatives reactions to hospital overcharges and fraud.  The Chinese people began attacking doctors, nurses and healthcare workers at such an alarming rate the government is sending police into hospitals to protect the workers.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss two recent news stories.  The first concerns a New York Times piece that found doctors are being paid millions of dollars in "rebates" for pushing anemia drugs.  A second story concerns two recent studies published in the Journal of the America Medical Association.  The studies found that drug coated stents are being used for "off-label" procedures at an alarming rate.
