Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Wallach spent more than 40 years in the field of Veterinary Medicine, observing and researching the effects of individual nutrients on animal health, before becoming a Naturopathic Physician in 1982. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Ben Fuchs discuss a couple of recent news articles regarding vitamin C.  Several studies support the idea that vitamin C can promote good health in a variety of ways.  Vitamin C can protect the skin and heart as well as cancer prevention, promoting good eye health, boost brain activity and possible extend life.

Dr. Wallach starts todays show discussing how to "recession-proof" your life.  Asserting that one way is to educate yourself on your own health care so you can stay away from the medical industry.  Also outlining the benefits of a home-based business through Youngevity.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss two recent reports from Medicare and Medicaid.  These reports contend that by the year 2017 U.S. health care spend will reach 4.3 trillion dollars.  That will be 19.5% of the nation's gross domestic product and up from 2.1 trillion spent in 2006.  Combine this with declining input from private spending as baby boomers retire and go into the Medicare and Medicaid system.

  • Nick asks Dr. Wallach about Inga Regan.  Whose story Doc relates occasionally telling how she had been in her bed on medication for 12 years.  After supplementing nutritionally she was able to get out of bed and wean off of her meds.  He also has questions concerning the vasoconstrictiive effects of caffeine.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss news articles concerning weight loss.  The first article concerns a study where mice on a saccharin gained more weight than those on a sugary food diet.  Next they talk about another study that put 18 young healthy adults on a fast food diet for 4 weeks.  The results were astonishing to the researchers.
