Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Wallach spent more than 40 years in the field of Veterinary Medicine, observing and researching the effects of individual nutrients on animal health, before becoming a Naturopathic Physician in 1982. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing the merger between Youngevity and the Suzanne Summers company.   Doc outlines several of the products now available to Youngevity distributors through the "Suzanne" company.  Asserting that this is another great financial opportunity for old and new distributors provided by the Youngevity company.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss two news stories regarding the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).  The first article concerning the director of vector borne diseases at the CDC who is considered a world expert on the West Nile virus.  Apparently the director recently contracted the disease that he is attempting to prevent.  The next story concerns the CDC's $214 million dollar bioterror lab in Atlanta, GA.  Over a year ago the lab had a ventilation system malfunction that resulted in air from the Q fever lab flowing out of the lab into a "clean hallway".  As a quick fix lab workers sealed a door with duct tape and a year later the tape is still on the door.  However, the CDC says the problem has been fixed and has not re-occured and the tape was left as a precaution.

Pharmacist Ben Fuchs fills in for Dr. Wallach.  Ben starts the show discussing the fact the body has over 100 trillion cells each capable of producing millions of chemicals.  Outlining how sugars a can impact these processes within cells.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Ben Fuchs discuss a research study on vitamin D and it's relationship in reducing cancer risks.  This study found a link between lowered risk of death from colorectal cancer and blood levels of vitamin D.  Researchers found that those in their study in the top 25% of vitamin D levels had a 50% less risk of dying compared to those in the lowest 25% of vitamin D levels.

Nurse Joanne Conaway fills in for Dr. Wallach today.  Joanne starts the show discussing a news article from Men's Health magazine on 8 different drugs that doctors are reluctant to take.  However, they have no problem prescribing these same drugs to their patients.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Joanne Conaway discuss a news article about the progress hospitals are making in fight the "super-bug".  Referencing the MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) bacteria that has grown by 61% in the past 30 years.  Although most are claiming successes more than half admit more work is needed.  Of course they are also contending they need more money to fight the problem.
