Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss two news articles regarding healthcare.  The first is a study that contends if fuel prices had risen at the same rate as healthcare since 1961 a gallon of gas would now cost $15.  Second they discuss a survey that found 17% of resident internists admitted that they and their colleagues had made fun of patients under anaesthesia.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing an announcement from Bank of American that they plan to lay-off 35,000 workers.  Doc contends that people shouldn't wait to be laid off they should be proactive and develope multiple income streams to offset the slow economy.  Asserting that a home-based business through Youngevity is a perfect low cost low overhead business to start.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a FDA advisory panel ruling on an osteoarthritis pain medication.  The drug called Synvisc made by Genzyme Corp. is used to alleviate pain in the knee.  It is a once every 6 months injection directly into the knee.  The drug is actually hyaluronic acid extracted from chicken combs.  Dr. Wallach has been recommending a similar treatment for nearly 15 years, but without the injection.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a Spanish study on the Mediterranean diet.  Those in the study who augmented the diet with a handful of raw nuts daily reduced their risk of the "metabolic syndrome" by 14%.  The ''metabolic syndrome" is defined as people who have three or more of the following conditions;abdominal obesity, high triglycerides, low levels of "good" cholesterol, high blood sugar and hypertension.
