Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Wallach spent more than 40 years in the field of Veterinary Medicine, observing and researching the effects of individual nutrients on animal health, before becoming a Naturopathic Physician in 1982. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Dr. Wallach starts the show today discussing the health benefits of dark chocolate.  Outlining the various compounds found in chocolate that are beneficial for good health.  Doc then lists the different products available through the Youngevity family of companies that have these same health benefits.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach continue discussing the health benefits of dark chocolate.  Doug cites an Italian study that found the consumption of dark chocolate reduces the blood levels of CRP (C-reactive proteins).  Higher blood levels of CRP have previously been associated with the kind of inflammation that has been linked to heart and blood vessel disease.

Dr. Wallach discusses all of the injuries and death associated with the medcial industry.  In hospitals and clinics 15 million people are injured, infected and killed and not one OSHA ticket written.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss two news articles concerning pharmaceutical companies.  The first concerns a lawsuit filed against Pfizer the world's largest drugmaker.  The suit contends that the company withheld or altered conclusions of studies that found there was no evidence to support claims made about the anti-seizure drug Neurotin.  Next they discuss a recent moves by the FDA in pulling TV ads for Bayer AG's birth control drug Yaz.   The FDA says the ads overstate the drugs effectivness in treating premenstural syndrome and understated the side effects.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning hospital firings in China.  Nine hospital officials including the vice president and president of a large teaching hospital were fired because eight newborns died from hospital acquired infections.

Dr. Wallach discusses the recent government bail out of the financial industry.  Recommending multiple income streams to off set job losses and possible pay cuts.  Contending that with several income streams the loss of one income won't be as financially devastating.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a study published in the journal Pediatrics.  The study found that people who had previously diagnosed gastroenteritis episodes were 40% increassed risk of inflammatory bowel disease.  Doc disagrees contending the researchers have it backwards.  Explaining that inflammatory bowel disease, ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease are all actually caused by sensitivities to wheat and wheat gluten.  This makes them more susceptible to contracting infectious gastroenteritis.
