Pearls of Wisdom
Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article regarding a study of sugar consumption in the U.S. Researchers are finding that sugar not only causes weight gain but can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. In recent years the percentage of calories consumed from added sugars increased from 15.7% in 1988-1994 to 16.8% in 1999-2004. But decreased to 14.9% between 2005 and 2010 with most adults consuming 10% or more of their calories from added sugar. Those in the study who consumed 17 to 21% of their calories from added sugar had a 38% increased risk of dying from cardiovascular disease.
