Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing Celiac disease and the health benefits of a gluten free diet. Explaining that Celiac isn't a wheat allergy but more an intolerance. This intolerance manifests as an inflammatory reaction comparing it to a reaction to poison oak or ivy.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article regarding a study on obesity. Researchers looked at differences between body temperatures of lean dogs compared to obese dogs. Finding the obese dogs had lower body temperatures leading the study authors to believe that the obese dogs were expending less energy to stay warm. Doc disagrees and contends that weight gain and obestiy are the result of nutritional deficiencies.

Dr. Wallach starts the show with a brief overview of his "Immortality" book. Outlining how some cultures live much longer than Americans. He explains that differences in diet, lifestyle and nutritional supplementation is the reason why these cultures live long lives. Also asserting that the medical systems approach to health is all wrong.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news story regarding acid reflux drugs. The consumer group "Public Citizen" is petitioning the FDA to put a black box warning on proton pump inhibitor drugs. Contending that in some healthy patients the drug is known to actually cause acid reflx. In fact it's been known since 2009 that over two thirds of people taking these drugs fail to meet the diagnostic criteria. This class of drugs has the second highest retail sails in the U.S. and in 2008 totalled $4.8 billion.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing a news article published in the New England Journal of Medicine. The story states every year 1.3 million patients that are misdiagnosed of with breast cancer. Resulting in many patients undergoing unnecessary tests and procedures.

The man can't pay his rent because medical bills have used up all his income. He also has missed so much work due to his maladies he no longer has a job. Diagnosed with spinal stenosis, diabetes, hypertension and heart disease. An example of what many baby boomers are currently going through and a look at what many more will face in the future.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing a news article about hospitals re-using disposisble needles. Putting patients at risk of contracting HIV, AIDS or Hepatitis. Outlining the statistics of patients that are killed, injured or infected every year in hospitals.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning a study of oncologists with conflicts of interest. In a survey of oncologists, surgeons and other cancer specials researchers found that ones that are based off services rendered were more likely to increase their pay by administering chemotherapy treatments. In fact compared to doctors who are paid a flat rate or salary were seven times more likely to increase their by perfoming more procedures.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing a news article that states 1 in 12 military personel have clogged arteries. The article also contends that in the Vietnam era 75% of soldiers killed had coronary arteries disease. Doctors are crediting the drop in heart disease to cholesterol lowering drugs and blood pressure medications. Doc disagrees asserting that he believes the drop is due to more soldiers taking vitamins and minerals.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning a report out regarding the continued overuse of unnecessary tests and procedures. Researchers looked a CDC data on doctors office visits of nearly 80,000 patients bewteen 1998 and 1999. The looked at the same data for over 100,000 patients between 2008 and 2009. Finding that doctors are giving prostate exams to men over the age of 75 and breast exams to women over the age of 75. The report did find a 37% increase in doctors prescribing aspirin to people with coronary artery disease. With the use of statins for heart patients doubling and found a 24% increase of the use of statins for diabetics.
