Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Wallach spent more than 40 years in the field of Veterinary Medicine, observing and researching the effects of individual nutrients on animal health, before becoming a Naturopathic Physician in 1982. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Dr. Wallach has been appearing recently with George Noory on Coast to Coast AM.

Dr. Joel Wallach begins the show discussing Martin Luther King Jr. day. Stating that he did not have the privilege to meet him. Contending that he was later contacted by the Corretta Scott King for two reasons. First for her own health challenges that she has concerns about. Second she told Doc that one of her husbands avenues he was going tackle. The fact that the black people had been lied to about their health. Being told by doctors that health challenges can be genetic.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article about preventing colds in children. Researchers survey more than 1100 parents from across the U.S. Finding that a majority of the parents follow evidence based recommendations to avoid catching a cold. They also found that 71% of parents also try non-evidence based strategies. On average children get three to six per year sometimes lasting for up to two weeks.

Dr. Joel Wallach begins the show discussing SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome). Contending that he sued the FDA to require selenium be added to infant formulas. Asserting that now SIDS rarely ever happens because the selenium is now in the formulas. Citing several other "wins" by Youngevity that helps reduce the incidence of several health challenges.

A study of nearly 4000 adults found that those who got less than six hours of sleep daily had a higher risk of cardiovascular disease. Compared to those who got seven to eight hours of sleep those getting less than six were 27% more likely to develop preclinical atherosclerosis. They also found those getting more than eight hours of sleep had an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.

Researchers believe that once infected the virus leads to a more severe immune response. Doc disgrees asserting that humans were never meant to eat wheat so the reovirus has nothing to do with celiac disease.

The report states that due to increased rates of suicide and increases in accidental overdoses the U.S. life expectancy has dropped. It's the worst it's been in nearly a century. With the overdose rates increasing by over 600%. Doc asserts that this is crazy and people need start supplementing so won't get depressed and want to commit suicide.

In fact these doses could be potentially fatal and one patient did die. An investigation is under way looking into why pharmacists and nurses who administered the drugs didn't raise a red flag.
