A recent Irish study found that those consuming 6000 to 7000 milligrams of salt daily had an increased risk of heart attack and stroke. Also finding that those with low salt intake were also at risk for cardiovascular problems. Of course the spokesperson for the American Heart Association whose guidelines recommends low salt intake disputes the study.
