Dr. Joel Wallach

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing acid reflux or "lack of acid" as he says. Doc and Char Murphy discuss proton pump inhibitors and why people get belching and bloating. Explaining the low acid levels allow bacteria to grow in the stomach. When food is added to the mix it ferments and expands much like rising dough.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning a study of autism. Researchers found that women who had higher levels of omega-6 fatty acids found in vegatable oils, nuts and seeds were 34% less likely to give birth to an autistic child. The also found that women who had low levels of omega-3 fatty acids were 53% more likely to give birth to an autistic child.

Outlining a story of how she used EFAs to relieve dry skin in her dogs. Dr. Wallach starts the show today discussing breast cancer. Outlining how a Harvard Medical School study found that mammograms have 31% false positives. Char Murphy states that in order to prevent breast cancer she does not go through the Xray machines at the airport.

 

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach continue discussing breast cancer. Doug outlines a news article regarding a Chinese meta analysis of 26 previous studys involving 900,000. Finding those who ate oily fish such as salmon rich in omega 3 fatty acids were less likely to get breast cancer. In fact compared to women who ate little or no fish they were 14% less likely to get breast cancer.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing weight loss as that is a "New Years Resolution" for many people. Doc contends that the reason many people have difficutly losing weight is because they go about it wrong. Asserting that weight gain and obesity are not due to excess or lack of will power. But rather a problem of deficiency outlining his theory that it the result of mineral deficiencies.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a couple of news stories. The first concerns a growing trend of hospitals making their employees "smoke free". Doing so by testing applicants for nicotine if they are positive they are offered help quitting and asked ot re-apply after they have quit the habit. Next they discuss a story about foods that help boost the immune system.
