Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Wallach spent more than 40 years in the field of Veterinary Medicine, observing and researching the effects of individual nutrients on animal health, before becoming a Naturopathic Physician in 1982. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing weight gain and obesity. Contending that while main stream medicine treats it as disease of excess it's actually a disease of deficiency. Asserting that binge eating, over eating and the munchies are actually caused by mineral deficiencies.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning a research study on bariatric surgery. The study found after following bariatric surgery patients for 10 years after the procedure they had a substantially higher risk of suicide compared to the normal population. Researchers were uncertain as to what the cause is however Dr. Wallach contends that it is due nutritional deficiencies.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing a news article concerning a study on marathon runners and any link to increased risk of cardiomyopathy heart attacks. The study results indicate these runners are no more likely to die from a heart attack than the general public. Doc asserts that any deaths due to cardiomyopathy heart attacks are not acceptable. Contending this type of heart attack are caused by a selenium deficiency.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss two news articles that relate to topics Dr. Wallach discusses frequently. The first is a study from Sweden that people who ate processed bacon or sausage (1.8 ounces) daily had a 20% increased risk of pancreatic cancer. Those who consumed 3.5 ounces had 38% increased risk and those eating 5.3 ounces had a 57% increased risk of pancreatic cancer. Next they discuss a study from Denmark people who drinking one liter of regular soda daily had 25% more fat surrounding organs and nearly doubled the amount of fat in the liver and muscle.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing the 80 million "baby boomers" 5 million of which have hit the Medicare system in the last couple of years. Putting a tremendous strain on the system. Doc contends that within just a few short years the Medicare system will be broke. He recommends that people be prepared to not be dependent on that system. Asserting that people should join the FDI-Youngevity team so they can control their own health and financial destiny.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss two news stories regarding health. The first is a recap of the CDC's (Centers for Disease Prevention and Control) list of the top 15 causes of death in the U.S. For the first time 45 years homocide is not on the list as it has dropped to number 16. Replaced by a respiratory illness that strikes the elderly called pneumonitis. However, no mention is made in the list of all the people killed in hospital settings every year. Those numbers easily top out the list above heart disease which the CDC lists as number 1. Next they briefly discuss an outbreak of Legionaire's disease that was traced to a decorative fountain in a hospital lobby.

Once turning to the article it says in huge lettering "NO". Then Doc outlines the statistics concerning medical mistakes.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning a study the life effects of living with diabetes. A study of over 15,000 young people and teens found those diagnosed with diabetes early in life had a higher risk of dropping out of school. This also translated in to lowered incomes because of lower education levels and more absence from work and school.
