Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing longevity. Asserting that cultures that live longer are still using wood ash in their gardens. These same cultures also are usually third world countries with less access to healthcare. Contending these people live so long because they aren't taking drugs or getting surgical procedures.

Bill Graff and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning a surgeon charged with healthcare fraud. Over the course of four years Dr. Spyro Panos submitted claims in excess of $35 million. Claiming at times he perform as many as 20 or more surgical procedures daily. Also at one point claiming he saw as many as 90 patients in a single day.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing type 2 diabetes. Contending that it is a preventable and reversible disease. Asserting that it is now known taking statin drugs can increase a persons risk of getting type 2 diabetes. Citing dietary and lifestyle changes that can be used to control diabetes without drugs with nasty side effects.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article that cites 10 symptoms of type 2 diabetes. Things like frequent urination, sudden weight loss, hunger pangs, dry itchy skin, slow healing of cuts and infections, chronic yeast infections, fatigue and irritability, blurry vision, numb and tingling hands and feet and blood tests.

Pharmacist Ben Fuchs fills in for Dr. Wallach starting the show discussing study on vitamin D. The study found that taking vitamin D did not reduce the incidence of osteoporosis. Ben contends that MDs are treating nutritional supplements like drugs. Meaning that they want to use one supplement and expect a result. When in fact it has been proven that vitamins and minerals need co-factors such as calcium needs magnesium.
