Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Wallach spent more than 40 years in the field of Veterinary Medicine, observing and researching the effects of individual nutrients on animal health, before becoming a Naturopathic Physician in 1982. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Dr. Wallach has been appearing recently with George Noory on Coast to Coast AM.

Dr. Joel Wallach begins the show discussing the epidemics that are headed towards baby boomers. Epidemics of Alzheimer's, arthritis, obesity and type 2 diabetes. Asserting these don't have to happen as they are avoidable through changes in lifestyle and diet. Contending that one change would be through nutritional supplementation.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a new article regarding false research. The Editor in Chief of the journal Lancet Dr. Richard Horton recently made the public statement "Much of the scientific literature, perhaps half, may simply be untrue. Afflicted by studies with small sample sizes, tiny effects, invalid exploratory analysis, and flagrant conflicts of interest, together with an obsession for pursuing fashionable trends of dubious importance, science has taken a turn towards darkness." The Editor in Chief of New England Medical Journal Dr.Marcia Angell also made a similar statement.

As currently most people are burning sugars from carbohydrates as fuel for energy. Stating that some elite military groups are using ketogenic diets to get soldiers into extreme fighting shape.

Doug Winfrey and Ben Fuchs discuss a news article regarding a study of weight loss. The study looked at 10,000 adults ages 18 to 64 and measured their water intake and consumption of water loaded fruits and vegetables. Finding those overweight and obese also tended to be under hydrated. Researchers recommending that when people feel hungry they should try drinking some water.

Contending that most people's bodies burn sugar for energy. Asserting that people on the ketogenic diet their bodies are burning fat for energy and that's how they lose weight.

Doug Winfrey and Ben Fuchs discuss a news article concerning a study of weight lifting methods. The study looked at 49 experienced weight lifters and divided them into two groups. One group lifted weights that were between 30 and 50 percent of the maximum weight the individual could lift. The other group lifted heavier weights that were between 75 and 90 percent of the maximum they could lift. Lifting the weights for eight to 12 repetitions per set. Working out four days a week for twelve weeks. Researchers found the two groups showed similar improvements in muscle mass and strength. The results show that athletes don't have to lift heavy weights to build muscle mass and increase strength.

Citing that an estimated 79 million Americans that have pre-diabetes and 90% don't realize they have the disease. The report also found that people taking medications for high blood pressure or high cholesterol were more likely they to know they have pre-diabetes.
