Dr. Wallach starts the show talking about the 80 million baby boomers that are headed for epidemics of all kinds. Specifically he addresses the growing number of obese adults in the U.S. Also asserting that many of these over-weight and obese adults are also at risk for developing type II diabetes. Contending that this doesn't need to happen because both problems are a result of nutritional deficiencies.
Pearls of Wisdom
Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning conflict of interest among doctors who invent medical devices. The story highlights a specific case where a woman had an annuloplasty ring implanted for a leaky mitral heart valve. After the surgery she discovered the device was not on the original list provided by her surgeon. Upon further investigation she learned the device that was implanted had been invented by her own surgeon. To make matters worse she also found out the device was not approved by the FDA.
