Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Wallach spent more than 40 years in the field of Veterinary Medicine, observing and researching the effects of individual nutrients on animal health, before becoming a Naturopathic Physician in 1982. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Dr. Wallach starts the show today discussing the increasing number of young athletes that are dying. Contending they are dying from cardiomyopathy heart attacks. Doc asserts that cardiomyopathy heart attacks are caused by a selenium deficiency. Stating that people would supplement their diets with the 90 essential nutrients they can prevent and reverse most chronic diseases.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach disucss a news article concerning mammograms. The article is the story of writer for the Washington Post Christie Aschwanden and her recent experience with her gynocologist. The doctor giving her a prescription for a mammogram without any discussion. Causing the reporter to do her own research and discover getting a mammogram at her age would probably do more harm than good.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) stating these people have been sick for years. Asserting this is due to nutritional deficiencies and too many antipychotic drugs. Asserting that psychiatrists keep patients on the drugs for years rather than trying to find the root cause.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article regarding a study on the health benefits of grape seed extract. Boosting the immune system, reducing inflammation and improving circulation. Researchers at University of Kentucky found the antioxidants in grape seed extract killed 76% of leukema cells after they were exposed.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing cystic fibrosis outlining his experience with the Yerkes Primate Institute. Stating he was fired for discovering the cause of cystic fibrosis in animals. Also relating the story of Jerry Lewis being fired by the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation for presenting Dr. Wallach's scientific data on the disease.

 

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss two news articles regarding studies involving antidepressant drugs. The first study discussed concluded that those taking antidepressants of a moderate to heavy dose for more than two years have a 84% increased risk of type 2 diabetes. Another study found that those taking curcumin a compound found in the spice turmeric fared just as well as those taking drugs for depression.

He also cites several statistics concerning waste in the U.S. medical system. Contending that people should educate themselves about healthcare and avoid the system.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a report from the American Heart Association. The report is calling on doctors to work with patients to educate them about healthier lifestyles in order to prevent chronic illnesses. The researcher Bonnie Spring asserting that most doctors are quick to write prescriptions rather than get at the root cause of health challenges because it's not covered by insurance.
