Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Wallach spent more than 40 years in the field of Veterinary Medicine, observing and researching the effects of individual nutrients on animal health, before becoming a Naturopathic Physician in 1982. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Dr. Wallach has been appearing recently with George Noory on Coast to Coast AM.

Explaining what nutritional supplements can be taken to help reverse the symptoms. Asserting these are all caused by various nutritonal deficiencies.

Listing several "tips" on how to manage the disease things such as staying hydrated, properly taking medications, eating several smaller meals, keeping a food diary to determine problem foods. Completely missing the main issue that Crohn's is caused by a gluten intolerance. Doc outlines several other disease states such as lupus, diverticulitis and IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) that are caused by gluten intolerance.

Contending that the medical model is wrong about most chronic disease states. Outlining the problem of a third of U.S. adults being overweight or obese.

Doug Wifnrey and Dr. Wallach discuss several news stories about medical mistakes and fraud. Citing the story of a Detroit doctor who got 45 years for fraud, money laundering and conspiricy. Dr. Farid Fata gave 500 patients cancer treatments the didn't need so he could charge insurance companies for millions. Another story of a nurse who fell asleep dropping a newborn and fracturing the babies skull. Finally the story of an anesthesiologist who was recorded making fun of the patient during a colonoscopy.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing his theory of why mineral supplementation is important for good health. Asserting that when it comes to health Americans are moving in the wrong direction. Citing a study that claims children born in 2001 will not outlive their parents.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a study on chronic illnesses in children. The study was originally designed to assess the overall health of American children by comparing disease rates to access to healthcare, race and ethnicity, state of residence and special needs status. What they found was that 43% of children suffer from at least one of 20 conditions considered in the study which did not include obesity and weight gain. When obesity and weight gain were considered the rate jumped to 54.1%.

Pharmacist Ben Fuchs fills in for Dr. Wallach beginning the show discussing cholesterol lowering drugs. Citing a news story about new guidelines out from a cardiologist group. The new guidelines are calling for wider use of cholesterol lowering statin drugs. Despite the fact that recent research has proven that taking these drugs doesn't reduce the risk of heart attack or stroke.

Doug Winfrey and Ben Fuchs discuss a news article concerning declining fertility rates. European researchers presented information on men's fertility stating that only 25% or men have "good" sperm. While 15% of men very poor quality sperm in terms of shape and concentration. The cause is exposure to chemicals in everyday enviroments mainly chemicals from plastics. Also stating that chemicals in sun screens are also part of the problem.
