Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Wallach spent more than 40 years in the field of Veterinary Medicine, observing and researching the effects of individual nutrients on animal health, before becoming a Naturopathic Physician in 1982. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Dr. Wallach has been appearing recently with George Noory on Coast to Coast AM.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article regarding a report out on cholesterol. The report contends that nearly 20% of U.S. children have problems with their cholesterol either the LDL is too high or the HDL is too low. Some 7.4% of children ages 6 to 19 have high levels of total cholesterol meaning the levels are at or above 200 milligrams per deciliter. Doc disagrees contending that total cholesterol should actually be higher than 200.

Dr. Joel Wallach begins the show discussing failed medical theories. Stating through out the ages there have been medical theories that are later found to be false. Starting with evil spirits causing illness all the way up to today where genetics are blamed for disease. Citing several disease states that are said to be genetic. Then asserting that they are not genetic because these diseases can be reversed through diet, nutritional supplementation and lifestyle changes.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article about sugar addiction. The story outlines several places where "hidden" sugars can be found. Stating that although some sweets such as honey or agave are natural they are not necessarily healthy. In fact those have more calories than a spoonful of sugar or sucrose. Too much sugar in the diet leads to weight gain and other health problems like type 2 diabetes. No mention of why people crave sugar because of mineral deficiencies.

Stating these birth defects are not genetic but rather due to nutritional deficiencies during conception and gestation.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article regarding research on ADHD. In recent years there has been an increase in the numbers of children and teens diagnosed with ADHD. The researchers conclude this increase is because a better understanding of the behavior. There has been an increase in all groups but especially with females and minority groups. Doc asserts the increase is due to a lack of nutritional supplementation and eating the wrong foods.

Dr. Joel Wallach begins the show discussing gluten intolerance. Asserting this is not an allergy but rather a contact dermatitis much like poison oak. Explain that gluten is a long chain protein that some 30% of Americans do not have the proper enzyme to break down. Outlining several of the places where gluten can be found in different foods. Stating the gluten destroys the villi in the small intestine compromising patients ability to absorb nutrients.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article regarding a study of asthma patients. The study found that children who have asthma, hay fever or eczema have more risk factors for cardiovascular disease at a young age. These children also had higher rates of being overweight or obese. These are all hallmark signs that someone is gluten intolerant. Unfortunately the researchers did not make that connection. Instead thinking the link might inflammation which is at the root of many diseases.
