Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Wallach spent more than 40 years in the field of Veterinary Medicine, observing and researching the effects of individual nutrients on animal health, before becoming a Naturopathic Physician in 1982. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Dr. Wallach has been appearing recently with George Noory on Coast to Coast AM.

Dr. Joel Wallach begins the show today discussing the mediterranean diet. Stating that although many medical doctors advocate this diet it is a bad diet. Because it includes oils as a main part of the diet. Contending these oils oxidize and cause inflammation in the human body. It's well known that inflammation can be linked to many common disease states.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning a study that links some drugs to asthma and allergies. The study of nearly 800,000 children found that 8% of all children got a prescription for acid suppressive therapy. Researchers found an increased risk of allergies when children were H2 blockers or proton pump inhibitors during infancy. While antibiotics during infancy is tied to a two fold asthma risk.

The article also acknowledged the work of MD Max Gerson from the 1940s and 1950s. Gerson noticed that his cancer patients had low potassium levels. Research from the 1970s found that low potassium levels are linked to an increased risk of cancer.
