Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Wallach spent more than 40 years in the field of Veterinary Medicine, observing and researching the effects of individual nutrients on animal health, before becoming a Naturopathic Physician in 1982. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Dr. Wallach has been appearing recently with George Noory on Coast to Coast AM.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a study from the University of California San Francisco. Researchers used a national data base and looked at the prescribing habits of 280,000 doctors. Finding that doctors who got a meal averaging $20 were twice as likely to prescribe brand name drugs than those not getting meals.

Dr. Joel Wallach begins the show today discussing why our soils are depleted. Asserting that before electricity came along people heated and cooked with wood. Then putting the ash aka minerals into their gardens and people got minerals through their food. Also contending that flood control with dams kept silt from getting into the soil in river valleys. The silt also isn't making it to the oceans where plankton used to feed on the silt.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning a study done at a California hospital. The hospital had staff members who were designated as Infection Prevention nurses. These nurses watched their colleagues to make certain they were properly washing their hands. For the study the hospital taught volunteers the skills of the IP nurses. The volunteers were unknown to the hospital staff. Finding the staff were more likely to wash their hands in front of the IP nurses. The staff were less likely to wash their hands in front of the unknown volunteers.

The report states that up to 1 in 5 deaths from car crashes, gunshots or other injuries might be prevented with better, quicker trauma care. The government found that top trauma care was not uniform across the country. Some areas had access to top flight trauma care while other areas are lacking. They are suggesting that civilian trauma centers need to be taught things the military learned after the start of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

Finding that patients treated for migraines had lower blood levels of vitamin B2, vitamin D and coenzyme Q 10.
