Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Wallach spent more than 40 years in the field of Veterinary Medicine, observing and researching the effects of individual nutrients on animal health, before becoming a Naturopathic Physician in 1982. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Dr. Wallach has been appearing recently with George Noory on Coast to Coast AM.

Pharmacist Ben Fuchs fills in for Dr. Joel Wallach beginning the show referring to a news article about a study on liver disease. Apparently the death rate from liver cancer has risen by 43%. Ben asserts that death from otner cancers are actually on the decline. Stating that one way to avoid all cancers is to increase the consumption of foods high in antioxidants.

Doug Winfrey and Ben Fuchs discuss a news article about ways to avoid getting skin cancer. Recommending wearing hats and keep skin covered. Also the use of sunscreen on exposed skin. Ben states that once out of the sun wash sunscreen off. Because sunscreens contain very toxic chemicals.

Dr. Joel Wallach begins the show discussing the "good food" and "bad food" lists. Stating people should stay away from oils, well done meats, processed meats and foods containing gluten. Contending people should be eating nuts, fruits, green leafy vegetables and meats cooked medium rare. Also recommending people do various tests at home to save money. That way if something like diabetes does crop up it won't be on their medical record. Avoiding insurance rate increases because of pre-existing conditions.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article regarding a research study on high blood pressure. The study followed over 1300 men and women until their deaths. About two thirds were women with a history of high blood pressure. All participants died on average around age 89. Following their deaths autopy results found that some 48% had one ore more brain lesions. Similar to the kind found in those with Alzheimer's disease.

Contending this is correct stating that if people don't eat the right foods and supplement weight gain is inevitable. Stating that with the right program people can lose weight and more importantly keep the weight off.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article regarding a study of gluten free products. Researchers at the University of Illinois surveyed nearly 7500 people regarding their dietary habits. The people who ate a gluten free diet were tested for levels of arsenic and mercury. Because many of the gluten free products use rice flour. Previous studies have found a link between toxic metals and rice flour via fertilizers, soil and water. Researchers found the gluten free group had twice the levels of arsenic and 70% higher levels of mercury compared to the non-gluten free diet people.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article about a new study on toxic chemicals in fast food packaging. Researchers at the Silent Spring Institute tested 400 samples from 27 different fast food chains. Finding that nearly half of the packaging tested contained fluorinated chemicals. These chemicals can leach into the food and have been linked to increased risk of several chronic health challenges including cancer.
