Monologue

Nurse Joanne Conaway fills in for Dr. Wallach.  Joanne starts the show discussing high fructose corn syrup.  The corn industry has recently started running "damage control" TV commercials to extoll the virtues of products sweetened by the corn syrup.  This all because recent studies have concluded that the high fructose corn syrup is worse on health than even raw sugar.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Joanne Conaway discuss a couple of news stories concerning germs in our lives.  The first article outlines the various problems associated with hospital personel wearing surgical uniforms outside of the hospital prompting some hospitals to instruct guards at doors to not let those wearing operating room colors to leave wearing the garmets.  Second they discuss a British study about the germs found in cars.

Callers

  • Al has two questions the first concerns a friend diagnosed with pericarditis (water on the heart).  Next he asks Joanne how to deal with gout.
