Dr. Joel Wallach begins the show discussing birth defects. Stating that there is no such thing as a genetic birth defect. Contending instead birth defects are due to nutritional deficiencies in the mother during gestation or conception. Citing the story that there no longer any SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) in North Carolina. Asserting this is because Youngevity lobbied the FDA to require makers of infant formulas to add certain nutrients.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning a study from Columbia University. Researchers found that adding omega 3 fatty acids to the diets of pregnant mice. They reduced the incidence of miscarriages and stillbirths. Finding that the omega 3s inhibited a common bacterium that causes 30% of preterm births. The bacterium is normaly found in the mouth but can get into the blood stream through bleeding gums. Eventually getting to the uterus and placenta and can trigger miscarriage or stillbirth.
