Doug Winfrey and Ben Fuchs discuss a news article the FDA updating it’s guidelines for sunscreens. Citing two ingredients often in sunscreens PABA and trolamine salicylate are not considered to be “generally recognized as safe and effective” (GRASE). Two other ingredients zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are GRASE. Twelve other ingredients found in sunscreens didn’t have enough data to determine if the are GRASE. The FDA is asking the manufacturors to provide more information so they can be evaluated.
