Monologue

Dr. Joel Wallach begins the show discussing the story of Ancel Keys. Who in the early 1900s was President of the American Heart Association. He was hired by Procter and Gamble to go around the country demonizing cholesterol. In an effort to help sell Procter and Gamble’s Crisco product as a healthy alternative to lard and dairy products. So cholesterol being tauted as the cause of plugged arteries was nothing more than an ad campaign.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning a study from the American Cancer Society. Researchers found that between 1995 and 2014 there has been a rise certain cancers linked to obesity in millenials including colorectal, kidney and pancreatic cancers. Millenials have about doulble the risk of developing obesity-related cancers compared to baby boomers at the same age. Raising fears that as this group ages they could slow or halt the reduction of morbitity rates seen in past decades.
