Monologue

Dr. Joel Wallach begins the show discussing epigenetics. Citing a study that he was involved with concerning the diet of ducks. He collected the eggs from a single pair of ducks and froze them until he had 100. Then the eggs were thawed and incubated. Once the ducks hatched they were divided into four groups and fed four different diets. The ducks that were fed duck pellets and barley grass were five times larger than ducks fed only barley grass.

Pearls of Widom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a report out from the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College. The report states that U.S. women don’t live as long as women from other wealthy nations. In 1960 American women were among longest living women in the world. In the 1980s that trend reversed and now American women die two and a half years earlier than women from other developed nations. Researchers believe this is due to smoking and obesity.
