Doug Winfrey and Ben Fuchs discuss a report out from AAA. After analyzing 7234 drivers who were involved in 4571 vehicle crashes from 6am to midnight between 2005 and 2007. Finding that those drivers who had less than four hours sleep in the 24 hours prior the accident had 11 1/2 times the crash risk. Compared to those who got the recommended 7 or more hours of sleep. Drivers who had four to five hour had a 4.3 times the risk, those who had five to six hour had 1.9 times the risk. One prior study found drivers deprived of sleep are actually as impaired as someone intoxicated on alcohol.
