Dr. Wallach discusses the impending H5N1 avian flu. Asserting that it's not a matter of if it will hit, but when. Contending that the virus is getting closer to being transmitted from human to human. Doc states that some states have even warned citizens that emergency services aren't prepared. Advising that people prepare themselves by stocking up on food and medical supplies.

Dr. Wallach and Doug discuss a news article concerning U.S. emergency rooms. A recent report from the Institute of Medicine states that ER's are not prepared to handle a severe crisis. Such as hurricanes, bioterrorist attacks or a pandemic like the avian flu. The report outlines that hospitals have staffing shortages and under equipped to handle a major disaster.
