Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing a report on unnecessary procedures and just how often the occur. The report outlines that 20% of pacemakers installed aren't needed. While 43% of colonoscopies, 34.5% of C-sections and 70% of hysterectomies are unnecessary.

 

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning a report on the Medicare drug program. The report found that more than 700 doctors nationwide wrote prescriptions for elderly and disabled patients in highly questionable and potentially harmful ways. One out of every four prescriptions written were paid for by Medicare costing $62 billion.
