Dr. Peter Glidden fills in for Dr. Wallach discussing the news of actress Valery Harper's terminal cancer diagnosis. Asserting that the war on cancer is lost after trillions have been spent on treatments and research. Contending the healthcare system is a broken model treating only symptoms and not address the root of the problem.
Pearls of Wisdom
Doug Winfrey and Dr. Glidden discuss a news article regarding a study of statin drugs. The study from the University of Michigan found that of primary care physicians and cardiologists surveyed 70% admitted they would prescribe statins to patients who don't have heart disease. Over 750 randomly selected doctors nationwide were given a survey with six different "hypothetical" patients with varying ages and genders. One third of the doctors responded to the survey between 40% to 94% would prescribe statins to patients who had no history of heart disease.
